Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse Works of Mercy: Upgrades & Holy Cross Five Kills

At a glance

Complete the objective beside an Arcana spell to earn its purification gem. Holy Cross’s five-kill objective requires five kills from a single throw.

Earn and spend purification gems

Open the Arcana menu and check Works of Mercy beside the spell. Each completed objective earns a purification gem for that card. Spend it on a blessing you want for that spell; Holy Cross gems cannot upgrade a different Arcana.

Read whether an objective counts hits, kills or a single action. They are not all cumulative kill counters.

Holy Cross objectives

Objective What counts
Obtain three different Whip weapons Three equipment weapons from the Whip family.
Kill five enemies with one Holy Cross throw Five kills during the same thrown cross, not five separate throws or five hits.
Kill ten enemies with Whip attack The special weapon attack during an Arcane Whip grapple can count; this is separate from collecting Whip weapons.

Set up one throw for five kills

Try gathering five vulnerable small enemies along the cross’s outward and return path. Lower their health if needed, then cast once and check the objective progress. This is a setup suggestion rather than a guaranteed fixed farming location.

If the objective does not complete, check that the result was five kills, all from the same throw, with Holy Cross equipped.

Avoid similar-looking objectives

Cursed Flame’s hit objective is not a kill objective. The aerial Petrifying Gaze objective requires the later falling damage to kill the target; petrifying an enemy alone is insufficient.
