Your first route
Follow the opening tutorials into the Paris underground and activate each Mirror of Life you pass. Continue through Path of the Rat to face The Fallen. Absorb the reward after the fight, then continue into Abandoned Sewers for the Arcane Whip tutorial.
Your next major goals are Medusa and Joan of Arc. Together with The Fallen, they provide the three keys for Catacombs Gate. A collectible on an unreachable ledge can wait: mark it and come back with a new ability.
Recover and grow
| Resource | What to do |
|---|---|
| Healing potions | The default capacity is three. Rest at a Mirror of Life to refill them. Temporary pickups do not permanently increase capacity. |
| HP and MP | Collect four Brave Heart Fragments or four Wise Heart Fragments to raise the corresponding maximum. |
| ATK and DEF | Gain levels; collect red books for attack and blue books for defense. |
| Experience | Fight enemies that drop yellow experience orbs. Constantly spawning Medusa heads without those drops are not useful leveling targets. |
Custom Mode can change potion capacity. Regular enemies usually return after resting at a mirror, so plan the return trip as well as the outward route.
Separate your whip actions
Arcane Whip is a traversal action. Yellow anchors support swinging; purple anchors pull Rose toward them. Attacking during a grapple triggers a weapon-specific attack. The Whip in your equipment is a weapon family, not the unlock for this traversal action.
Basic attacks can destroy some projectiles. Holy Light, obtained later, adds a separate parry action that does not require a shield weapon.
